Harmony Road Pet Sitting

Being full time pet sitters has many rewards. By far…the most important is meeting and inter-acting with wonderful pets! Yes, we enjoy exploring new and exciting areas. Finding the best shops and eateries is great. Discovering the local bike and hike trails is awesome. Meeting neighbors is fun. But having to care for and play with animals as your primary function is definitely a dream job for us! How did this all begin? Read on…

Many years ago, while working as a technician in Field Service at the University of Pennsylvania’s Veterinary School , I often met pet owners who loved their animals so much that they seldom (or never!) took a vacation or traveled to visit friends or relatives. They just couldn’t bring themselves to put their beloved fur babies in a kennel. Some were senior or special needs pets. Some were in need of daily medication. I’m certain that, in these cases, removing them from home and routine could have been devastating for them, as well as for the pet parents. Also, many of the folks had a menagerie that included some combination of horses, sheep, goats, chickens, fish, and reptiles along with the usual dogs and cats…

I happened to be covering the Field Service phones when one of these clients called to ask if we knew of anyone in the area who might “farm sit”. I was single with no kids or pets at the time. Having been on vet calls for their horses, I was already familiar with their farm and animals. After that first wonderful “farm sit”, over 30 years ago, word spread fast and “Harmony Road Pet Sitting” (I lived on Harmony Road at the time) was born! I have been pet sitting ever since. After meeting Gary, also an animal lover (of course!), we teamed up and have traveled this road together, finding great joy in “OPP”. That’s Other People’s Pets!
